If you’ve been looking to build and grow an email list from your website, you’ll need to find the right plugin that allows you to effectively do that.
Two of the best options I’ve tried are ConvertBox and Sumo, which we’ll be covering in-depth inside of this article so you can make the best decision for your own business!
Let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.
Here's what we'll cover...
About ConvertBox
ConvertBox is a list building and lead generation software that’s used to engage your visitors, grow your email list, and convert more sales for your online business.
They first started out as a company named ConvertBar, before ultimately rebranding to ConvertBox in 2018 after adding a ton of features and functionality!
Early in 2021, they were acquired by Josh Bartlett and his outstanding team to help take ConvertBox to the next level.
About Sumo
Sumo is a popular list building software that’s owned by the team behind a suite of marketing softwares and platforms such as AppSumo, SendFox, and KingSumo.
Powering nearly 1,000,000 sites, Sumo is a well-established software in the space but lacks the functionality of a more advanced tool like ConvertBox.
Which has better features?
ConvertBox Features
ConvertBox is loaded with functionality and features even industry leaders can’t compete with.
Whether it’s their advanced targeting and segmentation, analytics, or A/B testing, they offer everything you need from a lead generation software.
Here are the core features ConvertBox offers:
- Boost engagement with more personalised messaging
- Segment and convert more visitors with multi-step funnels
- Collect lead data with form fields and deep integrations
- Boost conversions with built in countdown timers
- Embed all your favourite marketing tools
- Create surveys and quizzes to segment, capture and convert your audience
- Display ConvertBox anywhere on your site
- Beautiful high-converting templates for every stage of your sales process
- Create, customize and launch in minutes
- Collect more data with multi-step forms
- Target the right visitors at the right time
- Track everything in real time with detailed analytics
- Split test your message and see exactly what works
- Designed to maximize conversions on all devices
- Manage ConvertBox across all your sites from one simple dashboard
- Simple 2 minute installation on any type of website
- A whole lot more inside
And on top of that all, they integrate with nearly every single email service provider and any website builder, since it’s not a traditional WordPress plugin.

Sumo Features
Sumo gives you everything you need to start generating leads and building an email list from your website.
Here are the core features Sumo offers:
- List Builder Forms
- Welcome Mat Forms
- Share Buttons
- Smart Bar
Inside of each of these, there are multiple ways for the forms and buttons to be triggered.
So while Sumo doesn’t offer advanced functionality and segmentation, they do list building the right way!
And at the moment, Sumo only works with WordPress and Shopify.
How much does each cost?
ConvertBox Pricing
While ConvertBox isn’t publicly available yet, I was able to get a special lifetime deal for readers of our blog.
At the time of writing this, ConvertBox costs $495 for lifetime access but this deal may expire at any time, so jump in before that happens!
ConvertBox Pro
And when you decide to purchase, you’ll be prompted with an order bump to upgrade your account to ConvertBox Pro.
I’d highly recommend this option if you have multiple websites or blogs you operate.
Sumo Pricing
While ConvertBox only has a lifetime deal available, Sumo is much more affordable in the short-term.
But as you can imagine, over time, it’ll cost you much more than if you were to go with the lifetime deal ConvertBox offers.

Everything else you need to know

Both of these tools were straightforward to get started with, but I found ConvertBox to be a bit easier to use.
Whether it was the form builder, analytics, or split tests, I was able to get everything I needed, fast.

Does ConvertBox or Sumo have better templates?
Both have great templates that will help you build a list, but Sumo’s are a bit outdated.
ConvertBox keeps things modern, flexible, and high-converting:
For that reason, I’d give ConvertBox the slight edge.
Does ConvertBox or Sumo have more integrations?
It’s a tie. Both of these tools should integrate with every email marketing platform you need.
Here are the integrations that work with ConvertBox:
Unfortunately, Sumo is restricted to only WordPress and Shopify, while ConvertBox can be used on any website builder.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both Sumo and ConvertBox are great for building your email list from your websites.
Sumo has a free plan which is great, but you’ll lack insights you will want from their Pro version.
For that reason, you should purchase the ConvertBox lifetime deal, see it works for your business, and they have a 30-day money back guarantee if you don’t like it for whatever reason.
